About Savvy Daddy

When I first became a new father, I did what lots of dads do and looked online for support and advice.  All I could find was articles about breastfeeding. um, sorry. So I started Savvy Daddy as a website and community that I would use myself - a decision-making/strategic/fun/crisis-averting resource for dads.

Our kids have special talents, don't they?

Check out the Survival Guide, which has 100+ "How To" articles for just about every situation you face as a dad - from buying your daughter's first bra to telling great stories to safety-proofing your home.

Delve into the Raising Savvy Kids articles designed to help you think through your game plan on the important stuff - raising kids with strong character and savvy life skills.

And finally, visit our blog, where we'll be dishing out tips, guides, hilarious stories, cut-the-crap perspectives, and bottom-line analysis of the key issues of being a dad today.  On the blog, we also offer expert opinion from our distinguished Savvy Daddy Expert Panel.   To interact with other savvy daddies, join 9,000+ dads on facebook.  For bite-sized savvy daddy tips, time/money saving ideas, and interesting links, stalk us on twitter.

Welcome and enjoy the journey!

OUR MOTIVATION

We believe that there is a quiet, but dedicated army of dads who are passionate about our kids. That passion is strong and runs deep within us. We fight off our work-induced semi-comas, we smell the pungency of diaperland and like it, and we discipline our minds to keep work at work. We resist the urge to always step in and sometimes watch our kids fail or fall, knowing they'll get up stronger. We suck it up, deal with our own crap, and unlearn bad habits because junior's watching. We get two days of work done in one day by working harder and smarter so that we can get home in time and keep a promise. Sometimes, we even do exactly what our wives have been telling us to do.

We are investment bankers, stay-at-home dads, engineers, physicians, business executives, grad students, writers, and surfers. We are conservatives, liberals, Christians, atheists, Muslims, and everything in between. What bonds us together is that we are passionate about being the best dad we can be. We're willing to do whatever it takes to bring out the best in our kids.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Tony Chen Profile Pic BWHi everyone, thanks for visiting Savvy Daddy. I'm Tony Chen. I created Savvy Daddy because I need all the dad advice and stories I can get myself! I'm happily married to savvy mommy and have a fun-loving toddler me-me (or at least, that's what he calls himself) and a lil, vivacious daughter born in Jan 2009. We live in the Chicago area.

By day, I'm a social entrepreneur for kids - building businesses that make an impact on our world's children (my latest project: Movement121 is working to transform the lives of 1,000,000 people trapped in unfathomable poverty and injustice to become self-sustaining). I also started a company that makes government data more searchable and usable at FDAzilla. By night, I'm a dishwasher, diaper-changer, troublemaker, expert laugh-generator, disciplinarian, bug/mousekiller, husband, and dad.

I love good food, doing CrossFit, learning random (and usually loud) musical instruments, and living out my journey of faith. And while I'm really excited about savvydaddy.com, my real passion is simply being a savvy daddy every day.  Soak it up, fellas - it sure goes by fast!

Email me at tony [at] savvydaddy [dot] com. I'm also at twitter and also pinterest.
